Pixel & Goliath

The first few weeks of my job have seen me mostly hanging out with my two-legged photography crew (more about that in later posts), but the other day I got to meet fellow four-legged friend!

Goliath came into the studio with one of the human members of his pack to have some shots taken. Get this: he’s going to be a star! Lucky he’s so handsome.

Goliath and his minders are keen to see him on the big or small screen, so were getting him some stylish headshots. And who better to ask than my talented crew at the Photo Studio?

I had so much fun watching the shoot – Goliath is already such a professional, and he had a great time. Not many dogs get a taste of studio photography. He and I are lucky dogs, aren’t we?

Of course, after all the business was out of the way, Goliath and I headed outside to have a bit of fun. That pup sure can wrestle – he lives up to his name.

Before he left, I got Goliath to paw-sign the back of a photo. I’m not sure he’ll remember me when he’s famous, but that autograph could be worth millions!

Keep an eye out for Goliath on your telly, and in the movies – I reckon he’s going places.

Hi! My name’s Pixel...

Hi! My name’s Pixel. I’ve been hanging out with my human-pack at The Photo Studio in Broadway lately, and just last week they asked me to be their Customer Relations Manager, and to write here about some of the exciting things that happen at the studio. They’re calling it a job – so clearly I’ve got them fooled!

I’m only a young pup, but if there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s schmoosing with humans. I love it! With this job, not only will I get to spend all day with my pack – I’ll also get to meet all the different types of humans that come through that red door. The Photo Studio does fashion photography and portraits, commercial photography and all sorts of other very cool stuff. I’ve met a bunch of pretty girls and trendy guys, some happy kids and few of those whacky creative types.

Humans can be a pretty strange bunch, and I think you’ll find them as interesting as I do, so each week I thought I’d share with you bits and pieces about the humans who come in to be photographed, as well as those behind the lens. And of course there are all sorts of things that a little cavoodle pup like me will see that some humans might miss – unless they’re hanging out down at ankle height like me, in which case they really are strange! Hopefully, from reading about what I see when I’m at work, you’ll be able to get a feel for what a fun place The Photo Studio is to be.

Promise me one thing though, won’t you? Don’t tell the humans that my job feels more like play than work!

Shoot of the Week: Tamsin Cranney

Hi I’m Andy, the Studios’ assistant, and I’m here to tell you about our shoot of the week; 15 year-old Tamsin Cranney.

Tamsin came into our studio for a fashion shoot with Carlo, one of our fashion photographers. Even though Tamsin was just 15 she really delivered some amazing images. With her flowing dark hair and olive skin Tamsin was born to be photographed. Her images were powerful and she really put everything into the session, which really showed once we looked through the hundreds of images taken during the day.

Tamsin had previously done a modeling course before the shoot, and it really showed, she was very natural and relaxed in the session. It’s important to remember that being yourself in front of the camera will always produce the best results. We all know that a posed photo will never compare to an intimate moment caught on camera. I think these images really show some intimate moments which happened during the session, and Tamsin should be really proud of the final results. I’m sure you’ll agree that these are really great images and I’m sure Tamsin and her family will treasure them for the rest of their lives.

Well Hello!

My name is Drew and I’m the newest and freshest member to join the team here at The Photo Studio. I was going to post a picture of myself, tell you my life story and basically try to turn you all into a giant Drew fan club, but North (the big boss man) has just told me that this is out of the question. Why? Because this blog is about you.

So let’s just jump straight in.

Megan Sullivan came in a couple of weeks back for a fashion shoot and WOW! That curly red hair is like a wild fire blowing dangerously in the wind. And those eyes… You could swim in them. They look like crystal blue dams ready to spill out onto that fire if it gets too big. There’s no hiding that I think Megan is very beautiful, but she’s also very unique looking, and I think that these shots by our fashion photographer Carlo Ricci capture her wonderfully.

“She wasn’t exactly shy before the shoot”, says Carlo, “but when it was lights, camera, action, there sure was action. She had tonnes of energy and posed like a professional. I couldn’t believe that she was only 17.”

So for her Botticelli Venus like looks and enthusiasm for the lens, Megan Sullivan gets my pick of the week. Remember this face, I wouldn’t be surprised if you flick to it in a glossy magazine sometime soon!

Katelyn Peachey

Our favourite shoot of the week here at 'The Art of You' has to be 17 year old Katelyn Peachey of Gosford. Katelyn has a big interest in fashion and modeling, and decided to take some beauty portraits here at the Photo Studio to kick things off. Looking at Katelyn's beautiful pictures, our photographers all agree that she has a great future ahead of her.

Katelyn is currently doing year 12 at Newtown Performing Arts High School, with a focus on dancing. She participates in dance showcases through her school here in Sydney, as well as local events around Gosford. As well as dancing, she tells us she loves sport, getting involved in Oztag and netball.
Katelyn tells us that she has always been interested in fashion, and likes nothing better than to sit back and pore over a fashion magazine. It has obviously paid off, as her photographer tells us that Katelyn came in with a mountain of fun stylish clothes she wanted to show off, and was posing using all of the tricks she has picked up from the pages of fashion mags!
Congratulations to Katelyn for being selected as our photo shoot of the week. Judging from the brilliant collections of photographs she now has to start of her modeling career, The Art of You has no doubt we'll be seeing her between the covers of her favourite fashion magazines before too long.

Kate Gabbott

Congratulations to Kate Gabbott of Warriewood, winner of our People's Choice Award for the Face of Fashion Weekend Sydney! Kate beat out almost three hundred hopefuls to take out the top prize (you can check out the other photos here).

As winner of the People's Choice Award, Kate received a magazine style fashion and beauty photo session including hair and makeup as well as prints valued at $1000 with one of our professional fashion photographers in our Broadway studio.

Kate, 16, as well as being busy with school and friends, dances a few times a week in Brookvale. She regularly performs at eisteddfods and charity events.

The Photo Studio is Where the Wild Things Are

Hi everyone, and happy new year! The Photo Studio has a huge 2010 planned, but let's start things off by showing how we farewelled 2009.
The Photo Studio set up for the second year at the Art Gallery of NSW's Contempo end of year party. The theme was 'Where the Wild Things Roam' and the guests certainly lived up to it. The Art Gallery was transformed into a decadent primal playground for the night, with music pumping, drinks flowing, and the Photo Studio there to capture all the action.

The Photo Studio photographers were the stars of the night, with people lining up to get their shots done in front of the vibrant, graffiti themed backdrops. The night's focus was fun and frivolity, as our photographers worked on getting some great pictures that really showed the subject's personality.
The Photo Studio love working with Contempo and the Art Gallery of NSW - as well as providing photography and entertainment for the end of year parties, North will be teaching his photography course for the fourth year running in 2010. If you're interested, make sure you inquire soon, as places are limited and get snapped up quickly. So thanks to Contempo for showing us where the wild things were for 2009. We can hardly wait for the end of the year to see what they come up with to farewell 2010.

Kicking off Street Fashion!

Hi there and welcome to our very first street fashion special! We decided to kick things off in The Photo Studio's home suburb of Glebe, and on a ridiculously hot Saturday afternoon wandered up to Glebe's weekly markets to see what everyone was wearing.
Due to the heat of the day, thongs and shorts were much in evidence, although a few people sacrificed their comfort for fashion.

For the first shot of the day, we just couldn't go past Leanne of El Cee's Designs, who was there tending to the stall in this awesome ensemble.
Leanne's hat is from El Cee's Designs, whose website can be visited here. She brought a little bit of burlesque glamour to the markets, and for that, we thank her.

Next up we spotted Abbey, 19, clad in a retro style Howling Bells t-shirt, hat and sunnies from Glebe Markets, and a pair of jeans. Abbey is a local artist whose work can be seen here, a collection of stencils, including some very cool stencil clocks that The Art Of You is a fan of.

The Art Of You also couldn't go past Byon's hat when we passed it in between stalls. Byon seems like a bit of a globe trotter, with his hat being made in Columbia from coconut fibres, his t-shirt from the Zion Reggae Bar in Tokyo, and his necklace from a stall in Thailand. Wherever Byon's fashion is from, it all came together here at the Glebe Markets.

Last but not least, we spotted Lena, a German traveler. She got right into the spirit of her new surroundings, wearing a shirt from the Glebe Markets, and toting a very cool bag that she picked up in the Blue Mountains.

Fashion Shoot of the Week - Isabella Andrade

We recently did a photo shoot with the beautiful Isabella Andrade.
As you can tell from these shots, Isabella is a very self assured and confidant young woman. Carlo Ricci (whose work can be seen here) was her photographer, and praised her modeling instincts.

Isabella, 16 from the Shire is also a singer. She has been performing around the Shire and in Sydney for over 6 years, and just performed this weekend at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
